Did You Know?
Denier is a measure of thread, and therefore it is a measure of weave density. The higher the number, the thicker the thread strand. Therefore, the denser and “knobby” the weave. Denser weaves and threads mean a more substantial fabric that can cope with daily wear and tear. Pack cloth (or nylon canvas) is a higher denier than ripstop.

Coating Matters for Denier Nylon Oxford Cloth
Although Denier Nylon Oxford cloth is strong and durable, the addition of a urethane or polyurethane coating makes a significant difference in water repellency and resilience.
- Coated in urethane, this fabric repels water and resists rips and tears. Urethane coated nylon is stronger and more stable than uncoated denier fabric.
- Polyurethane coated nylon is made by adding a semi-liquid material to a fabric structure. It adds strength and water repellency to the fabric.
These coatings give fabric the boost it needs to deal with outdoor use in items such as tents and luggage.
