1000 denier Cordura Like Material

1000 denier nylon fabric is woven from tenacity nylon yarn, finished with a polyurethane coating for water repellency.  This is denier nylon is not as expensive as it’s Cordura version, but has very similar properties. High abrasion resistance, strength, price and a variety of colors make 1000d nylon a very good choice for products that will be exposed to harsh conditions.  Products like luggage, sport bags, duffle bags, backpacks, wallets, horse blankets, pet beds, chaps and others are made with our 1000 denier nylon.

Our customers want to know if this is 1000 denier Cordura fabric.  Cordura is just a branded name for the yarn that is used and is manufactured by Invista (Koch industries).  This is a special requirement only when the product needs to be made from a Berry compliant material for the US Armed forces.  For commercial applications our fabric works just as well.  This is because the fabric is woven, coated and dyed the exact same way as Cordura, but just not made from Invista yarn.  It’s like buying Zyrtec from a pharmacy or going to Costco and buying their non branded “Zyrtec” that works just as good at a better price.

  1. What is Textured Nylon?
    • A textured yarn or bulked yarn have greater volume(mass) than those of regular yarn in the same denier.  1000 denier textured yarn will have more volume than 1000D nylon regular yarn.  How does this help the fabric?  Fabrics made from textured yarn usually stand up to wear and tear better than regular yarns.
  2. What is Denier?
    • The denier number is derived from the weight in grams of 9000 meters of nylon fiber.  In 1000D Nylon, 9000 meters of the nylon fiber weighs roughly 1000 grams.
